CASTLES
Artists can use their imagination and shapes to make pictures. Last week we saw Cityscapes and now we will find shapes in Castles.
Artist Paul Klee made a castle with many Geometric shapes.

Crazy Fall Patterns
Fall is a time to think about Art!. Changing colors make us think about the Color Wheel. Apples, Leaves, and Pumpkins remind us about Geometric and Organic shapes. Previously we looked at Pumpkins and the art of Yayoi Kusama who used polka dot Patterns in her art. We can use her work as inspiration to make our own Patterns with Fall themes. Lets get started!
What are Patterns?
A pattern shows a design that repeats. Here are some examples:
Lets look at examples of patterns in art:

What are some other Textures that we can find?
Natural materials can have different textures. Weaving soft cloth from fluffy cotton and scratchy wool can produce fabric. Shaping clay makes pottery that also can have Texture. Clay can be smooth and wet at first then become hard and dry. Here is an example of clay pottery Texture:

Welcome to Art with Mr. Rob! We will start with a song!
This week we will continue with looking at the Elements of Art by thinking about Color! The Color Wheel explains how colors work together.
PRIMARY COLORS: RED, YELLOW, and BLUE
Let's watch a video that shows how Primary Colors can mix together to make Secondary Colors:
SECONDARY COLORS: ORANGE, GREEN, and PURPLE
Where does color come from so that we can see it? Colors come from light and light comes from the sun. Here is a story about colors:
We can understand how colors work by looking at a rainbow!
This video of a waterfall shows light passing through water droplets to create a rainbow.
We can find rainbows everywhere!
Check out these rainbow songs:

Elements of Art
This week we continue looking at the Elements of Art!
Lets review what we know about them.
Lets review what we know about them.
We talked about Geometric and Organic Shapes. Shapes are flat and 2-Dimensional.
Now we are ready for Forms! Geometric Forms are versions of Geometric Shapes except they are not flat. Geometric Forms have volume. You can see Forms from all sides.
Forms can also be called 3-D Shapes. Here is a video that can tell us more:
Forms can also be Organic when they are irregular and come from nature.
Artists can use forms to make different kinds of art. Art that is 3-Dimensional is called Sculpture.
Here is a story from BrainPop Jr to help us learn about Sculpture:
Sculpture is art that you can see from all sides. This Olmec Head sculpture below resembles a Cylinder. On the left is a photo of a real Olmec Head and on the right is a 3-D model that we can spin to see all sides.
We can learn more about Sculpture in this video:
Sculpture can be made with many types of materials. Many artists take trash and recycle it into art!
The world's largest recycled material sculpture is a whale made of trash found in the ocean.
Below is a picture and video about the project:

Elements of Art
Art is made of different parts. Last week we talked about shapes. This week we will learn about lines. Shapes and lines are two items that belong to a group called the Elements of Art. Here is a video to and a story to explain more.
Lines
Last week we talked about shapes. To make shapes first you need lines. Lines can be vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. Vertical lines go up and down. Horizontal lines go side to side.
Lines can also travel at a slope like the side of a hill and if they do we call them diagonal. Diagonal lines can move differently as well.
Lines can appear in many ways. Let's see a video about lines:
Where can we see lines? All around us! We can find vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines in these pictures:
Lines in real life change according to how you see them. The first airplane built by the Wright Brothers can help us to see how lines can change when you see an object from different viewpoints.
Here is a demonstration that shows you different lines:
We can see many different types of lines in art.
Artists use lines too!
We can watch artists making lines.
Here is a story is about a boy who uses a purple crayon to make lines:
Lines can do even more! Lets find out by hearing another story:
